Free Vanderbilt Training: See Functional Communication Training in Action
Vanderbilt University’s Lambert Lab offers free, self-paced video training on trial-based functional communication training (FCT). The resource includes instructional videos and supporting materials that help learners understand how to teach functional communication as an alternative to problem behavior.
This resource connects to TCO Domain G.1: Design and evaluate positive and negative reinforcement procedures, by illustrating how reinforcement can be arranged to strengthen appropriate communication.
As you prepare for the exam, use the videos to practice identifying positive and negative reinforcement contingencies, recognizing how consequences strengthen functional communication, and distinguishing between procedures that provide access to preferred stimuli (e.g., attention or tangibles) and those that provide escape from nonpreferred conditions.
