What is the difference between the PTB Small Stack SAFMEDS and the PTB FlashMEDS?

The PTB Small Stack SAFMEDS and the PTB FlashMEDS both contain 560 terms and peer-reviewed definitions. However, the SAFMEDS are smaller (3.5” x 2” size cards) and are specifically designed for rote memorization. The FlashMEDS are larger (4” x 6” cards) and have space for students to add personalized elements for increased stimulus salience. FlashMEDS combine rote memorization with active learning, allowing students to use them as both SAFMEDS and traditional flashcards, depending on their preferred study method. Here is a detailed side-by-side comparison.

The FlashMEDS include a durable branded container for easy transport as well as nine 6″ stainless steel interlocking wire rings (3 purple, 3 blue, 3 green) for dynamic organization. The PTB FlashMEDS combine both rote memorization and active learning techniques. Although the SAFMEDS do not include rings, they come in a sturdy, custom corrugated container. Their compact size makes them lightweight and easy to transport, allowing for more frequent and shorter study sessions.
