Dana Do’s: How to Prepare for the Transition to the BACB® 6th Edition Test Content Outline

The sixth edition TCO is upon us, so what does that mean for those of you preparing to take the exam between now and/or after the transition? There are three categories of specific needs.

The fifth edition folks hoping to pass before the transition: Obviously, with the limited amount of time, and the month in between the takes, there is no longer the luxury of multiple opportunities. So that means your studying should be even more intensive and thorough, to be safe. But this is totally possible.

If you have the fifth edition PTB ABA Exam Study Manual, it is absolutely feasible to consume all that content in time. There is also one more PTB Big Exam Prep Workshop based on the fifth edition left this year. If you haven’t tried that before, this would be a great way to ensure that you do everything that you can to just get it done before January 1, 2025.

Those prepping under the fifth edition, but not necessarily sitting until 2025: Keep in mind that the exam will be based on the sixth edition TCO. Yes, even though you fall under fifth edition requirements.

If you are wondering what you should do with all those fifth edition materials, here’s the good news: The science hasn’t changed. All that fifth edition knowledge will not go to waste. However, there is going to be some areas that you may have already studied that won’t be on the new exam. And of course, there will definitely be new content.

To help you navigate these changes, PTB has created the PTB Crosswalk to the 6th Edition Transition for both BCBA and BCaBA candidates. This free download is going to help connect the Task List and the Test Content Outline. It is intended to be a supplement for the fifth edition materials to help identify the gaps.

If you already have the fifth edition Study Manual, the PTB Crosswalk will be useful with the new TCO. But, you are going to have to supplement it with the new information. If you are considering buying the new sixth edition PTB ABA Exam Study Manual, you should know it is a whole new Manual. Not only does it have the new TCO content, it has all new material. While there are benefits in upgrading, the fifth edition material will still be useful but it will require a little extra leg work on your end to fill in the gaps identified by the PTB Crosswalk.

Finally, those of you who have been patiently waiting for sixth edition study resources: They are here and you’ll be able to utilize any of our signature products, which will all be based on the sixth edition Test Content Outline.

You got this!
