Dana Do’s: Yes, verbs are clues that can help you prep for the BCBA exam

Did you know that the verbs in the task list give you major clues on how to study? Just think about those task list verbs. Define, explain, measure, evaluate, use, and plan, just to name a few. So, what does that mean for you, you ask? Well, it means you can take a look at the verbs, and you’re going to know how and what to study because it tells you what kind of a discrimination you’re going to be required to make: G-20: “Use” self-management strategies. Your job: Understand the “use” of the strategies. Versus, F-2: Determine the “need” for behavior analytic services. So, you’ll want to know what constitutes a “need.” Or, C-6: “Measure” trials-to criterion. You’ll have to “measure” the contents of a scenario and discriminate different calculation options. Or “Distinguish between” dependent and independent variables. Know the “difference between” these terms. So, you see, not a lot of mystery on how you’ll be tested. Just look at the verbs for the type of understanding that you’ll need for each topic.
